CHESSIE CLASS LIST WITH BOOK INFORMATION:
Please note that CHESSIE Staff will determine which classes are offered each year based on need of participants.
All of the 4 highschool level classes below will be offered for 2022-2023
Physics (Grade Level 11, 12) High School Level
Prerequisite: Algebra II, recommended by Apologia
Teacher: Mrs. Amber Basener
Curriculum: Apologia Science, Exploring Creation with Physics
2nd edition by Dr. Jay Wile
FOUNDATIONS OF PHYSICS
CHESSIE Physics offers two different high school physics classes during our class time. The regular physics class follows the book completely.
The other options is Foundations of Physics. In the foundations class, the students do less of the math problems and use their extra time to complete projects on the concepts being covered. The foundations class covers all the same material but uses writing, movie making, home experiments and the like to understand the concepts as well as mathematical computations.
Both classes are rigorous and count as high school physics credit. The level and prerequisite of math is the same for both classes. The main difference is the amount of math used. Students who understand and enjoy the language of mathematics will thrive in the regular class. Students who need more time to do math problems and enjoy showing their knowledge in more hands on ways will enjoy the foundations class.

3)Astronomy and Astrophysics Biblical Supplement By Dr. Sarah Saviander
Students will use the free web-based Astronomy Notes textbook

I am pleased to offer to teach an astronomy class for the coming school year. I am enthralled by the study of the cosmos and the way it points to our creator. This will be a non-lab elective science class. As an elective, it can be taken during 9-12 grade. Remember that as a non-lab class, this course does not fulfill a lab science criterion. The student needs to be familiar with algebra, specifically using formulas and “solving for x”. The student will get a chance to see concepts taught in other science classes, expanded and applied to astronomy, as well as learn new ideas about the stars, planets, and the universe in general. Topics include history of astronomy, how we know about the stars, celestial navigation, types of stars and their life cycle, Einstein’s relativity, electromagnetic radiation and more, all while seeing how it supports and enriches our understanding of the world as scientists and Christians.
